Fr. Raphael Barberg

Fr. Raphael has been the pastor of St. James The Apostle Mission in Westminster, Maryland since 2011. Fr. Raphael is a retired Lieutenant from the City of Buffalo, NY Police Department, where he served for 20 years. He is a graduate of State University of New York’s Empire State College, receiving a BA in Cultural Studies.   In 1995, Fr. and his wife, Kelleylynn began their journey; together they were chrismated into the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.  Soon after their first child was born in 1997, he enrolled in the Antiochian House of Studies.  Once completed, Fr. was ordained to the diaconate in 2001, on the Feast day of St. Raphael of Brooklyn (his patron saint), at St. George Orthodox Church in Niagara Falls, NY where he faithfully served until he and his family moved to St. Vladimir’s in 2008 to accomplish his Masters in Divinity.  In 2010 on St. Thomas Sunday, by the laying on of hands from Bishop Alexander; sponsored by, blessed memory, the Very Reverend Archpriest George Aswad and Very Reverend Archpriest Paul Solberg, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood. While in seminary for three years, Fr. Raphael  mentored along side the Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Elias of St. Mary’s in Brooklyn, NY. Along with his service to the Eastern Orthodox church, Fr. Raphael continues working and training with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in their First Responders and Emergency Repsonse efforts.  He has made several trips to aid in this service utilizing counseling expertise in PTSD, explicitly during the aftermath of 9-11 while at Ground Zero and in the Family centers, as well as the traumatic mass shootings at Virgina Tech and Northern Illinois University, and in the destruction after Hurricane Sandy. 

 

Fr. Jonathan Ivanoff

Fr. Jonathan Ivanoff is an Archpriest in the Orthodox Church in America and has over two decades of extensive experience in parish, diocesan and national church work. He is the Director of Orthodox NCD America, a pan-Orthodox and pan-jurisdicational ministry that supplies tools and resources to parishes seeking help in parish health and growth. Fr. Jonathan has been using NCD principles in parish work since 1992 and has been a coach and presenter for NCD since 2003 as well as a presenter for the Church Multiplication Training Center and OCA “Boot Camp” from 1998 to 2002. He has been a member of the OCA’s Department of Evangelization since 2003 and is currently head of the Commission on Mission and Evangelism for the Diocese of New York and New Jersey. He is also a CoachNet Certified Coach. Fr. Jonathan is a 1986 graduate of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary and was ordained a priest in 1993, serving since that time at St. John the Theologian Church in Shirley, NY. He has also twice served on the board of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center. He has also been a Career Counselor and Internship Director at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, since 2008. Before coming to Adelphi, Fr. Jonathan also served in IT and project management, account management, corporate training and consulting, and software technical sales and support.

 

Monte J. King, Th.M., M.A.

Monte J. King holds masters degrees in theology and counseling and has been in private practice for over 18 years in Colorado and Tennessee specializing in relational difficulties of all kinds where healthy connectedness has gone awry.  He also specializes in online counseling services, such as using Skype or Google Hangouts, to help people from all over the world. His approach honors psychological, spiritual, and physical aspects of a person's life. He grew up in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, and his loves include the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, Jayhawks basketball, acoustic guitar music (okay an occasional raunchy rock and roll foray), literature, poetry, and physical fitness.  

 

Timothy Barkley

Timothy S. Barkley, Sr. received his Juris Doctor degree and the Master of Arts in Public Policy from the Regent University School of Law, is a member of the Maryland State Bar and the Bar of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is a former president of the Greater Mt Airy Chamber of Commerce and an active member of the Howard County Farm Bureau. He is a subdeacon and cantor at St. James Orthodox Church of Westminster and Chairman of the parish council. He lives in Mount Airy with his wife and children.

 

Mark Naftel

Mark Naftel received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University, JD from University of Virginia School of Law, and an LLM in International Business and Trade Law from Fordham Law School.  He has a distinguished career in technology law and business working with several companies and law firms.  He is a member of St. Ignatius Orthodox Church in Franklin, Tennessee and serves on the parish council.  Mark and his wife have two children.
